2025 Fisheries Dinner

CLIC President, Kathy Conley presents a cheque to Neal Berry of the SCIWC for the Tag & Track Project

On Thursday September 11, 2025, CLIC re-introduced it's Fisheries Dinner of days-gone-by!  We feel it was a resounding success with over 32 people in attendance.

The dinner was held at the Lakeside Restaurant which is part of the Houlton Community Golf Club.

The weather was perfect and it was so nice to have a relaxed evening with like-minded East Grand Lake neighbours and friends.

Our group filled the back room of the restaurant and lucky attendees received some "CLIC-ified" favors at each place setting.  Guests were treated to one of two different versions of homemade proprietary (LOL) Fish Crisp as well as a unique champagne cork floating boat key chain.  The tables looked lovely and intimate and there was much discussion and laughter at each.

The program for the evening was short, sweet and informative.  Speakers included:

Kathy Conley, CLIC President and MC for the evening

David Townsend, Chair, Fisheries Committee

Kevin Dunham, Fisheries Resource Supervisor,  Maine Inland Fisheries and Wildlife

Josh Koester, Fish Culture Supervisor, Maine Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.

Matt Warner, Biologist with Acadia University.

Neal Berry, Executive Director, St. Croix International Waterway Commission

The highlight of the evening was the presentation of a $4,000 cheque from CLIC to Neal Berry, SCIWC.  This donation represented, in part, an accumulation of specific donations made to CLIC over the last number of years that were earmarked specifically for Fisheries Related projects.  CLIC was thrilled to put these donations to great use in the Tag and Track Project.

Also at the dinner, CLIC was very proud to announce that 100% of CLIC Board Members have donated to and are supporting the Tag and Track Project.  Hopefully our members will see that we enthusiastically believe in this project and will offer their support as well!

Josh Koester from Maine Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, was recognized for his Leadership, organization of and participation in CLIC's Annual Fish Release with local schools.  CLIC presented Josh with a token of much appreciation for all he has done.  Thank you Josh!

Kevin Dunham's impending retirement at the end of 2025 was acknowledged and lamented! Kathy thanked Kevin for all he has done for the Penobscot Region Fisheries,  and for CLIC...including involving us in this exciting T&T Project!  Kevin was given a special token of appreciation and will be greatly missed.  Thank you, Kevin!

Dinner attendees then got to hear all about the Tag and Track program straight from the Taggers and Trackers!  Matt Warner and Neal Berry spoke about the program, how it works, what it will accomplish and how the scope of the project can increase over time.  The tagging devices as well as the tracking mechanisms were explained, discussed and passed around for attendees to inspect.  Neal and Matt were very generous with their time as they took questions and very appreciative of the support as they received donations.

We encourage you to CLIC here to learn more about the Tag and Track Project.

CLIC welcomes and encourages membership support of this important initiative as it will help us better understand the fish populations in our lake and how we can support them and the environment in which they live. To make a donation, if you are so inclined, CLIC here.
