Boat Washing
Clean Drain Dry... After Every Waterbody, Every Time
CLEAN DRAIN DRY (CDD) is a public awareness campaign aimed at preventing the introduction and spread of aquatic invasive species which pose an ongoing threat to native species, the economy, recreation, and human health and safety. Many aquatic invasive species - including plants, fish, and mussels - can be accidentally transported when people go fishing and boating in different bodies of water.
CDD is a call-to-action encouraging the users of New Brunswick’s and Maine's lakes, rivers, and coastlines to CLEAN, DRAIN, and DRY their boats, trailers, and other recreational equipment to stop ‘aquatic hitchhikers’. By following a few simple steps every time you leave the water, you can help prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species and protect the environment.
Clean

-
Visual inspection: remove all visible plant matter, mud and debris from watercraft and gear
-
Wash vehicles/equipment with hot water (45°C/113°F) when possible.
-
Ensure water from rinsing does not flow into any natural waterbody.
-
Anything removed must be disposed of onto land
Drain
-
Drain all internal compartments on your watercraft and equipment - ballast tanks, live wells, bilges, bait buckets, motors, coolers, buckets, ropes etc.
-
Flip and drain non-motorized watercraft - canoes, kayaks etc.
-
Pull all plugs - it is illegal to transport plugged watercraft in some provinces and US states.

Dry

-
Completely dry all surfaces making sure no water is left standing.
-
Equipment should be fully dry to the touch before moving to a new water body.
-
Use a sponge or towel for hard-to-dry areas
